Installing the Child Restraint System (CRS)

~1min read

WARNING

Before installing your child restraint system, always:

Read and follow the instructions provided by the child restraint manufacturer.

Failure to observe all warnings and instructions may increase the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH in the event of a crash.

WARNING

If the vehicle headrest prevents correct installation of the child restraint, the headrest of the corresponding seat position must be adjusted or removed completely.

After selecting a suitable child restraint system for your child and checking whether the child restraint system fits correctly on the seat, there are three main steps for correct installation:

  • Properly secure the child restraint system to the vehicle. All child restraint systems must be secured to the vehicle with the seat belt, or the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt, or with the ISOFIX top tether and/or ISOFIX anchorage and/or with a support leg.
  • Make sure the child restraint system is securely installed. After installing the child restraint system in the vehicle, push and pull the seat forward and from side to side to make sure it is firmly attached to the seat. A child restraint system secured with the seat belt must be installed as tightly as possible. However, some side-to-side movement can be expected. When installing the child restraint system, adjust the vehicle seat and seatback (up and down, forward and backward) so that your child fits the child restraint system comfortably.
  • Secure the child in the child restraint system. Make sure the child is correctly secured in the child restraint system according to the child restraint manufacturer's instructions.

CAUTION

A child restraint system in a closed vehicle can become very hot. To avoid burns, check the seat surface and buckles before placing the child in the child restraint system.
