Folding the Rear Seat

~2min read

The rear seat backs can be folded down to facilitate transporting long items or to increase the cargo capacity of the vehicle.

WARNING

  • Never allow passengers to sit on a folded seat back while the vehicle is moving. This is an improper seating position and seat belts are not available for use. This may result in serious injury or death in the event of an accident or sudden stop.
  • Items carried on a folded seatback must not stick up higher than the top of the front seatbacks. This may allow cargo to slide forward and cause injury or damage during sudden stops.

To fold the rear seatback:

1. Set the front seat back to the upright position and, if necessary, slide the front seat forward.

2. Lower the rear headrests to the lowest position.

3. Before folding the seatback, guide the seat belt outward so that the seat belt system does not interfere with the seatback.

4. Pull the belt out of the guide (1) and pull up the seatback folding lever (2), then fold the seat forward toward the front of the vehicle.

5. To use the rear seat, lift and move the seatback rearward.

Push firmly on the seatback until it locks into place with a click. Make sure the seatback is locked in place.

Insert the belt into the guide.

WARNING

When returning the rear seat back from the folded position to the upright position, hold the seat back and return it slowly. Make sure the seat back is fully locked in the upright position by pressing on the upper part of the seat back. In an accident or sudden stop, an unlocked seat back may allow cargo to move forward with great force and enter the passenger compartment, which may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING

Do not place objects on the rear seats, as they cannot be properly secured and may strike vehicle occupants in a collision, which may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING

Make sure the engine is off, the shift lever is in P (Park), and the parking brake is securely applied when loading or unloading cargo. Failure to take these steps may allow the vehicle to move if the shift lever is unintentionally moved to another position.

CAUTION

  • Be careful when loading cargo through the rear passenger seats to avoid damaging the vehicle interior.
  • When loading cargo through the rear passenger seats, make sure the cargo is properly secured to prevent it from moving while driving.

WARNING

Cargo must always be secured to prevent it from being thrown around the vehicle in a collision and injuring vehicle occupants. Do not place items on the rear seats, as they cannot be properly secured and may strike the front passenger seatback in a collision.
