What to Do in an Emergency

If the Engine Does Not Start

~1min read

If the engine does not crank or cranks slowly

  • Make sure the gear shift lever is in N (Neutral) or P (Park) if the vehicle has a dual clutch transmission. The engine will start only when the gear shift lever is in N (Neutral) or P (Park).
  • Check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight.
  • Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or goes out while the starter is operating, the battery is discharged.

Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine. This may damage your vehicle. See the "Jump Starting" instructions in this chapter.

CAUTION

Push-starting or towing the vehicle may overload the catalytic converter, which may damage the emission control system.

If the engine cranks normally but does not start

  • Check the fuel level and add fuel if necessary.

If the engine still does not start, we recommend contacting an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for assistance.
