Noise and Smoke from Airbag Deployment
When the airbags deploy, they produce a loud noise and may release smoke and powder into the air inside the vehicle. This is normal and is the result of the airbag inflator igniting. After airbag deployment, you may experience significant discomfort in breathing due to contact of your chest with both the seat belt and the airbag, and from inhaling smoke and powder. The powder may aggravate asthma in some people. If you experience breathing difficulties after airbag deployment, seek medical attention immediately.
Although the smoke and powder are non-toxic, they may cause irritation to the skin, eyes, nose, throat, etc. If this occurs, immediately flush with cold water and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
