Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Release the parking brake.
  3. Remove the floor console assembly. (Refer to Body - "Floor Console".)
  4. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (A).
  5. Remove the parking brake cable after removing the nut and cable holder (A).
  6. Remove the parking brake lever assembly (A) after loosening the bolts.

Installation

  1. Install the parking brake lever assembly (A).

    Tightening torque: 19.6–29 N·m

  2. Install the parking brake cable and cable holder (A).
  3. Apply a coat of the specified grease to each sliding part (A) of the ratchet plate or ratchet pawl.

    Specified grease: CASMOLY 623

  4. Install the parking brake cable adjuster, then adjust the parking brake lever stroke by turning the adjusting nut (A). Parking brake lever stroke: 5–7 clicks (pull the lever with a force of 196 N (20 kgf, 44 lbf))

Adjustment

  1. Remove the floor console assembly. (Refer to Body - "Floor Console".)
  2. Depress the brake pedal 20 times with a force of 10 kgf after bleeding. Then, to seat the cable, fully apply the parking brake lever. More than 3 times.
  3. Install the parking brake cable adjuster, then adjust the parking brake. Lever stroke: turn the adjusting nut (A).

    5–7 clicks (pull the lever with a force of 196 N (20 kgf, 44 lbf))

  4. Tighten the parking brake cable by turning the adjusting nut until the control levers on both calipers lift from the stopper to the distance (A) and (D) between the operating lever (B) and the stopper (C).

    Distance (A + D): Max. 3 mm (0.12 in.)

  5. Fully release the parking brake lever and make sure the parking brakes do not drag when the rear wheels rotate. If necessary, adjust.
  6. Make sure the parking brakes are fully applied when parked. The brake lever is fully raised.
  7. Install the floor console. (Refer to Body - Floor Console)
