General Troubleshooting Information
Before Troubleshooting- Check the related fuses in the applicable fuse/relay box.
- Using the battery tester (MCR-570 KIT), check the battery for damage, state of charge, and clean and tight connections. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - Battery)

- Do not quick-charge the battery if the battery ground cable has been disconnected. Otherwise, you will damage the alternator diodes.
- Do not attempt to crank the engine with the battery if the ground cable is loose. Otherwise, you will seriously damage the wiring.
- Check the generator belt tension (D).
- Make sure the connectors are clean and there are no loose wire terminals.
- Make sure multi-cavity connectors are filled with grease (except waterproof connectors).
- All connectors have push-type locks (A).

- Some connectors have a clip on the side used to secure them to a bracket on the body or another component. This clip has a pull-type lock.
- Some mounted connectors cannot be disconnected unless you first release the lock and remove the connector from the mounting bracket (A).

- Never try to disconnect connectors by pulling on the wires. Instead, disconnect the connector halves.
- Always reinstall plastic covers.

- Before connecting connectors, make sure the terminals (A) are in place and not bent.

- Check that the lock (A) and rubber seals (B) are not loose.

- The rear of some connectors is filled with grease. Add grease if necessary. If the grease (A) is contaminated, replace it.

- Insert the connector fully and make sure it is securely locked.
- Route the wires so that the open end of the cover faces downward.

- Secure wires and wire harnesses to the frame with wire ties at the designated points.
- Carefully remove the clips; do not damage their locks (A).

- Insert pliers (A) under the base of the clip and through the opening at an angle, then squeeze the expansion tabs to release the clip.

- After installing harness clips, make sure the harness does not interfere with any moving parts.
- Keep wire harnesses away from exhaust pipes and other hot parts, sharp edges of brackets and holes, and exposed screws and bolts.
- Install grommets correctly into the grooves (A). Do not leave grommets twisted (B).

- Do not use wires or harnesses with damaged insulation. Replace them or repair them by wrapping the break with insulating tape.
- After installing parts, make sure wires are not pinched under them.
- When using electrical test equipment, follow the manufacturer's instructions and the instructions in this manual.
- If possible, insert the test probe from the wire side (except waterproof connectors).

- Use a probe with a tapered tip. Refer to the wiring repair kit user's manual (publication number: TRK 015).

- Verify the Customer Complaint: Operate all components in the problem circuit to verify the customer's complaint. Note the symptoms. Do not begin disassembly or testing until you have narrowed down the problem area.
- Circuit Analysis: Find the schematic of the problem circuit. Determine how the circuit should operate by tracing the current path from the power source through the circuit components to ground. If several circuits fail at the same time, the cause is likely a fuse or a ground. Based on the symptoms and your understanding of circuit operation, identify one or more possible causes of the problem.
- Isolate the Problem: Perform circuit tests to check the diagnosis made in step 2. Remember that a logical and simple procedure is the key to effective troubleshooting. Check the most likely cause of the failure first. Try to perform tests at points that are easily accessible.
- Repair the Problem: Once the specific problem has been identified, perform the repair. Be sure to use proper tools and safe procedures.
- Verify Circuit Operation: Operate all components in the repaired circuit in all modes to make sure you have corrected the entire problem. If the problem was a blown fuse, be sure to check all circuits on that fuse. Make sure no new problems appear and the original problem does not recur.
Description
When reconnecting the battery cable after disconnection, or after battery discharge or removal of the driver's side memory fuse, be sure to reset the systems listed in the table below. In addition, when replacing or reinstalling fuses after removal, they must be reset according to the table below. Refer to the table below when performing service.| System | Reset | ||||
| Power Window Up/Down |
Whenever the battery is disconnected or discharged, or the relevant fuse is replaced or reinstalled, reset the automatic up/down power window system according to the procedure below.
1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. 2) Pull up the power window switch so the window fully closes, then continue pulling the switch up for about 1 second. |
||||
| Panoramic Roof | Whenever the battery is disconnected or discharged, or the relevant fuse is replaced or reinstalled, the panoramic roof system must be reset according to the procedure below. 1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and close the panoramic roof fully. 2) Release the panoramic roof control lever. 3) Press and hold the CLOSE button for more than 10 seconds until the roof moves slightly. 4) Release the panoramic roof control lever. 5) Press and hold the CLOSE button again until the roof does the following.
6) The panoramic roof system reset procedure is complete. |
||||
| Trip Computer | When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the trip computer's stored settings are initialized. Therefore, inform the customer of this. | ||||
| Clock | Whenever the battery terminals or the relevant fuses are disconnected, you must reset the time on the head unit. (Refer to the Audio System Owner's Manual) |
||||
| Audio | When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the customer's radio presets are reset (initialized). Therefore, you must record the customer's radio presets before service and set the customer's radio presets after service. |
