Actions to take in an emergency

If an Emergency Occurs While Driving

~1min read

If the engine stalls while driving

  • Gradually reduce speed while keeping the vehicle in a straight line. Carefully steer off the road to a safe location.
  • Turn on the hazard warning lights.
  • Try restarting the engine. If the engine does not start, we recommend contacting an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing

If the engine stalls at an intersection or crossing, place the shift lever in N (Neutral) and push the vehicle to a safe location.

Tire deflation while driving

If you notice that one of your tires has deflated while driving:

  • Release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to slow down while keeping in a straight line. Do not apply the brake immediately or attempt to leave the road, as you may lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident. When the vehicle has slowed to a speed at which you can do so safely, carefully apply the brake and leave the road. Move as far away from the road as possible and park the vehicle on a firm, level surface. If you are on a divided highway, do not park the vehicle between the two traffic lanes.
  • When the vehicle is stopped, press the hazard warning button, place the shift lever in P (Automatic transmission) or in Neutral (Manual transmission), apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition to the LOCK/OFF position.
  • Remove all passengers from the vehicle. Make sure they exit on the side away from traffic.
  • When replacing the deflated tire, follow the instructions provided later in this chapter.
