If the engine does not crank or cranks slowly
- Make sure the shift lever is in N (Neutral) or P (Park) if the vehicle has an automatic transmission. The engine will start only when the shift lever is in one of these positions.
- Make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.
- Turn on the interior lights. If their brightness decreases or they go out when you operate the starter, the battery is discharged.
Do not attempt to push or tow the vehicle to start it. You could damage it. Refer to the "Jump Starting" section in this chapter.
WARNING
If you push or tow the vehicle, you risk overheating the catalytic converter, which may damage the emission control system.
If the engine cranks normally but does not start
• Check the fuel level and add fuel if necessary.
If the engine still does not start, we recommend contacting an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
