Do Not Ride Reclined
In this manual: Your Vehicle's Safety System
~1min read
Sitting in a reclined seat can be dangerous while the vehicle is moving. Even if the seat belt is fastened, reclining the seatback significantly reduces the protection provided by the restraint system (seat belt and/or airbags).
To be effective, the belts must be adjusted across the hips and chest. In an accident, you may slide under the belt and be injured on the neck or other parts of the body.
The more the seatback is reclined, the greater the risk that the occupant's hips will slide forward under the lap belt, and that the neck will contact the shoulder belt.
WARNING
- NEVER sit in a reclined seat while the vehicle is moving.
- This type of behavior increases the risk of serious injury or death in a collision or sudden braking.
- The driver and passengers must ALWAYS sit upright, properly secured, with their seatbacks upright.
