Closing the Fuel Filler Cap

~3min read

1. To install the fuel filler cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks. The click indicates that the cap is securely tightened.
2. Close the fuel filler door and press it lightly, then make sure it is securely closed.

WARNING

- Refueling the Vehicle

• If pressurized fuel sprays out, it may splash onto your clothing or skin, creating a risk of fire and burns. Always open the fuel filler cap carefully and slowly. If fuel leaks out from under the cap or a hissing sound is heard, wait until these stop, then open the cap fully.
• Do not top off the fuel tank above the filler neck edge after the fuel nozzle has automatically shut off during refueling.
• After refueling, always make sure the fuel filler cap is securely closed so that fuel does not spill out in the event of a traffic accident.

WARNING

- Fuel Refueling Hazards

Motor fuel is flammable. When refueling the vehicle, carefully observe the recommendations below. Failure to do so may result in serious injury, burns, or death from fire or explosion.

• When at the filling station, read and follow all warning signs.
• Before refueling, note the location of the emergency fuel shut-off button, if provided at the filling station.
• Before touching the fuel nozzle, discharge any potentially hazardous static electricity. To do so, touch any metal part of the vehicle located at a safe distance from the fuel filler neck, fuel nozzle, or other fuel-containing objects.
• Do not get back into the vehicle after refueling has started, as this may generate static electricity by contact with objects or fabrics (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.) that may cause this effect.

A static electricity discharge may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire to spread rapidly.

If you need to re-enter the vehicle, discharge the potentially hazardous static electricity again. To do so, touch any metal part at the front of the vehicle located at a safe distance from the fuel filler neck, fuel nozzle, or other fuel-containing objects.
• When using a fuel container, always place it on the ground before filling it. A static discharge from the container may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
After refueling has started, maintain contact with the vehicle body until refueling is complete.
• Do not use mobile phones while refueling.

Electric currents induced by them or interference caused by them may, with low probability, ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
• Always stop the engine while refueling the vehicle. Sparks generated by the engine's electrical equipment may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling is complete, check that the fuel tank filler cap is securely closed, and only then start the engine.
• DO NOT use matches or a lighter, DO NOT SMOKE, and do not leave a lit cigarette in the vehicle while it is at a filling station, especially during refueling.
Motor fuel is highly flammable, and its ignition may cause a fire.
• If a fire occurs during refueling, move well away from the vehicle and immediately contact the filling station personnel, then the fire department. Follow all their safety instructions.

• When refueling the vehicle, observe the "Fuel Quality Requirements" described in Section 1. • If the fuel filler cap needs to be replaced, use only a genuine HYUNDAI cap or an equivalent cap designed for this vehicle. Using an incorrect cap may cause serious failure of the fuel system or the emission control system.
• Do not allow fuel to contact the exterior surface of the vehicle. Fuel of any type may damage painted surfaces.
• After refueling, make sure the fuel filler cap is securely closed so that fuel does not spill in the event of a traffic accident.
