Removal

  1. Remove the transmission assembly. (Refer to "Manual Transaxle System" in Group MT)
  2. Remove the clutch cover bolts.
    • Be careful not to bend or twist the bolts.
    • Loosen the bolts in a diagonal sequence.

Inspection

  1. Check the cover diaphragm spring for wear at the contact point with the clutch release cylinder or release bearing.
  2. Check the clutch cover and disc surface for wear or cracks.
  3. Check the clutch disc facing for slipping or oil stains.
  4. Measure the depth from the clutch facing surface to the rivet. If the measured value is less than the value below, replace the disc. Standard value: Clutch disc thickness (A) [free state]: 8.7 ± 0.3 mm. Clutch disc rivet depth (B): 1.1 mm (0.0433 in)

Installation

When reinstalling a used clutch cover, the cover must be installed together with the clutch disc as a set.
  1. If necessary, apply grease to the spline of the disc and the input shaft spline of the transmission.
    * Possible problems if not performed
    • If not applied: Excessive spline wear and poor clutch operation may occur.
    • If applied excessively: Grease may be thrown off by centrifugal force and contaminate the clutch disc. This may cause loss of friction force, resulting in slipping.
  2. The side marked "T/M SIDE" must face the transmission.
    • Possible problems if the disc is installed in reverse.
    • Gear shifting errors or abnormal noise may occur due to incomplete clutch disengagement.
  3. Install the clutch disc and cover using SST (A: 09411-1P000).
  4. Install the clutch cover bolts. To prevent bending or twisting, tighten them in a diagonal sequence.

    Tightening torque: 24.5 - 35 N·m

    • Lightly tighten all clutch cover bolts, then tighten to the specified torque in a diagonal sequence. This prevents cover distortion, vibration and lifting of the pressure plate.
    • Install all components to the specified torque. Otherwise, problems may occur with the transmission torque converter or the mounting bolt may loosen.
  5. Install the transmission assembly. (Refer to "Manual Transaxle System" in Group MT.)
