Driving Your Vehicle
Carbon monoxide (CO) is poisonous. Breathing carbon monoxide can cause loss of consciousness and death.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which you cannot see or smell.
Do not breathe engine exhaust.
If at any time you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately. Exposure to carbon monoxide can cause loss of consciousness and death by asphyxiation.
Make sure the exhaust system has no leaks.
The exhaust system should be inspected whenever the vehicle is raised for oil change or any other purpose. If you hear a change in exhaust sound or run over something that strikes the underbody of the vehicle, the exhaust system should be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.
Do not run the engine in an enclosed area.
Running the engine in a garage, even with the garage door open, is dangerous. Start the engine only as long as needed to start it and move the vehicle out of the garage.
Avoid idling the engine for a long period of time when people are inside the vehicle.
If it is necessary to idle the engine for a long period of time with people inside the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set to "Fresh" and the fan control set high enough to draw fresh air inside.
Keep the air intakes clean.
To ensure proper ventilation system operation, keep the ventilation air intakes in front of the windshield clear of snow, ice, leaves, and other obstructions.
If you must drive with the rear door open:
Close all windows.
Open the instrument panel vents.
Set the air intake control to "Fresh," the airflow control to "Floor" or "Face," and the fan control to a high level.
