Electronic Power Steering (EPS)

~1min read

This system helps you steer the vehicle.

If the engine is off or if the EPS is not operating, you can still steer the vehicle, but more steering effort will be required.

If you notice any change in the steering effort required during normal operation, have the EPS checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

CAUTION

If the electric power steering system is not operating normally, the warning indicator ( ) will illuminate on the instrument cluster. The steering wheel may become difficult to control or steer. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the system checked as soon as possible.

✽ NOTICE

  • Steering effort may be high immediately after the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. This occurs while the system performs the EPS diagnostic. When the diagnostic is complete, the steering will return to its normal condition.
  • A clicking sound may be heard from the EPS relay after the ignition switch is turned to the ON or LOCK/OFF position.
  • Engine noise may be heard when the vehicle is stopped or moving at low vehicle speed.
  • An abnormal noise may occur when steering at low temperatures. If the temperature rises, the noise will disappear. This is a normal condition.
