Driving Your Vehicle

Proper Driving Practices

~2min read
  • Never shift from P (Park) or N (Neutral) into any other gear when the accelerator pedal is pressed.
  • Never shift into P (Park) while the vehicle is moving. Come to a complete stop before shifting into R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
  • Do not shift into N (Neutral) while driving. Doing so may cause loss of engine braking and transmission damage, which may lead to a collision.
  • Never attempt to select a gear opposite to the direction of vehicle travel. Check the gear position before driving. Stop the vehicle before shifting into the desired gear. The engine may stall, which may result in a collision.
  • Do not drive with your foot resting on the brake pedal. Even light pressure may cause constant pressure on the brake pedal, overheating of the brakes, brake wear, and possibly brake failure.
  • When driving with the shift paddles or using manual shift mode, reduce speed before downshifting. The vehicle will not downshift if engine speed would exceed the allowable range.
  • Always apply the parking brake when leaving the vehicle. Do not rely on shifting the transmission into P (Park) to keep the vehicle from moving.
  • Use extreme caution when driving on slippery surfaces. Be especially careful when braking, accelerating, or shifting gears. On slippery surfaces, sudden changes in vehicle speed may cause the wheels to lose traction with the road, which may result in loss of vehicle control and a collision.
  • Optimum vehicle performance and fuel economy are obtained by smoothly depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death:

  • Always wear your seat belt. In a collision, an unbelted occupant is much more likely to be seriously injured or killed than a properly belted occupant.
  • Avoid high speeds when driving through curves or turns.
  • Do not make quick steering movements, such as sudden lane changes or rapid, sharp turns.
  • The risk of rollover increases greatly if you lose control of your vehicle at highway speeds.
  • Loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the paved surface and the driver turns to re-enter the road.
  • If your vehicle leaves the paved road, do not turn sharply. Instead, slow down before returning to the paved road.
  • HYUNDAI recommends obeying all posted speed limits.
