Battery Charging
Your vehicle has a maintenance-free, calcium-based battery.
- If the battery has discharged in a short time (for example, because the headlamps or interior lamps were left on while the vehicle was not in use), recharge it with a slow charge (trickle) for 10 hours.
- If the battery gradually discharges due to high electrical load while the vehicle is in use, charge it at 20-30 A for two hours.
When charging the battery, observe the following precautions:
- The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
- Keep cigarettes, sparks, and open flames away from the battery.
- Monitor the battery during charging, and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to release gas heavily (boiling) or if the electrolyte temperature in any cell exceeds 120°F (49°C).
- Wear protective eyewear when checking the battery during charging.
- Disconnect the charger in the following order.
1. Turn off the charger power switch.
2. Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.
3. Disconnect the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal. - Before performing maintenance or charging the battery, turn off all accessories and stop the engine.
- When disconnecting the battery, the negative battery cable must be removed first and installed last.
