Description

The Smart Cruise Control system allows the driver to program the vehicle to control speed and following distance by detecting the vehicle ahead, without pressing the brake pedal or accelerator pedal.
  1. Speed Cruise Control: The vehicle maintains the set speed when there are no vehicles ahead.
  2. Deceleration Control: The vehicle decelerates when a vehicle ahead is detected.
  3. Following Distance Control: The vehicle maintains the selected following distance.
  4. Acceleration Control: The vehicle accelerates to the set speed when no vehicle ahead is detected.
  5. Heavy Traffic Control: In traffic jams, your vehicle will stop if the vehicle ahead of you stops. Also, if the vehicle ahead starts moving, your vehicle will also start moving. However, if the vehicle has been stopped for more than 3 seconds, you must press the accelerator pedal or press the RES+ switch to start moving.
  6. Cornering Control
    1. The sensor may not detect a vehicle ahead, or may detect a vehicle in other lanes, because the detection range of the sensor is limited.
    2. When cornering, if a vehicle equipped with SCC is traveling at high speed, the vehicle may slide outward. Therefore, reduce speed when entering curves, even if there is no vehicle ahead. (SCC does not provide brake control for cornering.)
    3. When following a vehicle ahead on a straight road, if the preceding vehicle enters a curve, the vehicle equipped with SCC may accelerate to follow the vehicle ahead.
    4. On curves, if the vehicle ahead moves out of range, the vehicle does not accelerate to the set speed and maintains the following speed to prevent repeated acceleration and deceleration. (If a vehicle equipped with SCC changes lanes or the accelerator pedal is pressed, the vehicle will accelerate.)
  7. Warning Signal: If the vehicle equipped with SCC decelerates because the vehicle ahead is braking or cutting into your lane, the warning will activate.
    1. If the vehicle equipped with SCC can decelerate properly by the system – no warning
    2. If the vehicle equipped with SCC cannot decelerate properly by the system
      • The indicator in the cluster will flash and the warning buzzer will sound. (The warning and system deceleration will continue as long as the brake pedal is pressed.)
    3. If the vehicle ahead (vehicle speed: less than 30 km/h) disappears into the adjacent lane during distance control, a warning chime will sound and a message will appear. Adjust your vehicle speed for vehicles or objects that may suddenly appear in front of you.
  8. Driver Override: Even if the vehicle is decelerating by the SCC system, the vehicle can be accelerated by pressing the accelerator pedal. If the vehicle accelerates above the set speed, the indicator in the instrument cluster will flash.
    • Smart Cruise Control Operating Conditions
    • Vehicle speed approximately 0 to 180 km/h
    • Transmission in D or Sport mode
    • ESC OFF Switch — OFF
    • ESC OFF Switch — OFF
    • "CRUISE" switch ON (CRUISE indicator on)
Under the above conditions, activate the cruise system using the "SET/–" or "RES/+" switch. • Smart Cruise Control Cancellation Conditions
    • While driving: CRUISE switch off, CANCEL switch on, or brake pedal depressed.
    • While stopped: CRUISE switch OFF or CANCEL switch ON with the brake pedal depressed.
    • The driver door is open.
    • Vehicle speed is above 180 km/h.
    • Stopped on a Steep Slope
    • SCC Stop Lasting More Than 5 Minutes
    • Repeated SCC Stop and Go for a Long Time
    • When attempting to drive the vehicle after the vehicle ahead has stopped far ahead of your vehicle during SCC automatic stop.
    • Transmission in N, P or R
    • ESP/TCS/ABS operation
    • Accelerator pedal pressed for more than 60 seconds
    • "ESP OFF" switch ON (ESP OFF indicator on)
    • Parking brake applied
    • System malfunction (warning indicator on)
    • Crack, damage or incorrect installation of the Smart Cruise Control unit cover (warning indicator on)
  9. Cruise Control Function: The driver can use only the cruise control mode (speed control function) by performing the following: With the Smart Cruise Control system on (CRUISE indicator on, but system not activated), press the distance switch for more than 2 seconds. "Smart Cruise Control (SCC) mode" and "Cruise Control (CC) mode". The speed control in cruise control mode is the same as in smart cruise control mode. When using cruise control mode, the driver must manually control the distance to other vehicles, as the system will not automatically brake to decelerate other vehicles.
Cruise Control Main Switch (CRUISE) — The Smart Cruise Control system is turned on by pressing the CRUISE ON/OFF main switch. When the Smart Cruise Control system is on, the CRUISE indicator illuminates on the instrument cluster. SET/– Switch — The SET/– switch, located on the right side of the steering column, has two functions. SET Function — Press and release the SET/– switch at the desired speed. The SET indicator on the instrument cluster will illuminate. Release the accelerator pedal. The set speed will be maintained automatically. At low speeds, a vehicle must be detected 2 ~ 15 m (6.6 ~ 49.2 ft) ahead of your vehicle in the range of 0 ~ 30 km/h. The target speed is set to 30 km/h. Coast Function — Press and hold the SET/– switch while Smart Cruise Control is on. The vehicle will gradually decelerate. Release the switch at the desired speed. The desired speed will be maintained. Press and quickly release the SET/– switch. The cruise speed will decrease by 1 km/h or 1.0 mph.
If the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed when the accelerator pedal is pressed, the vehicle speed will return to the set speed.
Resume/Accel Switch (RES/+) — The RES/+ switch, located on the right side of the steering column, has two functions. Resume Function — If the cruise control has been temporarily canceled by any method other than the CRUISE ON/OFF main switch, and the system is still active, the most recently set speed will automatically resume when the RES/+ switch is pressed. Accel Function — Press and hold the RES/+ switch while Smart Cruise Control is on. The vehicle will gradually accelerate. Release the switch at the desired speed. The desired speed will be maintained. Press and quickly release the RES/+ switch. The cruise speed will increase by 1 km/h or 1.0 mph. Cancel Switch (CANCEL)
  • While the vehicle is moving, the cruise control is temporarily disengaged by pressing the CANCEL switch, regardless of whether the brake pedal is applied or not.
  • While the vehicle is stopped, the cruise control is temporarily disengaged by pressing the CANCEL switch with the brake pedal applied.
Following Distance Control Switch — This system allows you to set and maintain the distance from the vehicle ahead without pressing the accelerator or brake pedal. The following distance control is automatically activated when the Smart Cruise Control system is on. Select an appropriate distance depending on road conditions and vehicle speed. Each press of the button changes the distance as follows: Example) Distance 4 → Distance 3 → Distance 2 → Distance 1 → Distance 4 If you are driving at 90 km/h, the distances are maintained as follows: Distance 4 — approximately 52.5 m (172.2 ft) Distance 3 — approximately 40 m (131.2 ft) Distance 2 — approximately 30 m (98.4 ft) Distance 1 — approximately 25 m (82.0 ft) The following distance for each step varies depending on the speed of the vehicle ahead.
