In the IGN2 ON state, if the auto switch input (LIN communication) is ON, the outputs of both the wiper relay and the wiper low relay are controlled by the rain sensor input signal.
If the wiper switch was left in AUTO with the ignition switched off, then the ignition is switched on, one single wipe will be performed.
A single wipe will be performed whenever rain is detected (Rain Detected signal from the rain sensor) and the wiper switch is in the AUTO position. No wipe will be performed when the wiper switch is in the AUTO position and an OFF signal is received from the rain sensor. However, if the wiper switch is moved to the AUTO position for the first time after turning the ignition key on, one wipe will be performed regardless of whether rain is detected or the signal is OFF.
The driver can adjust the rain sensor operation by changing the sensitivity input. In AUTO mode, the BCM performs one wipe each time the sensitivity is adjusted up to a more sensitive setting (down by more than one step). This single wipe will be performed only if the 'rain detected' signal is received from the rain sensor. If the sensitivity adjustment is increased by more than one step, the BCM performs only one wipe if the time between increases is more than 2 seconds.
Rain sensor fault strategy: Rain sensor fault 1 – internal fault detected. This fault is detected when the wiper is in AUTO mode and the rain sensor input from the rain sensor has a duty cycle corresponding to fault 1. The fault confirmation delay is 1 second. When this fault is detected, the wiper outputs are turned off, and the wiper also performs a slow-speed wipe when changing from sensitivity 3 to sensitivity 2 (steps 2–3) to signal the presence of this fault. If another sensitivity is set, the wiper does not perform additional wipes.Rain Sensor Malfunction 2 - Windshield Mounting Fault Detected. This fault is detected when the wiper is in AUTO mode and the rain sensor input is faulty. The duty cycle of the rain sensor signal corresponds to Fault 2. Fault confirmation delay is 1 s. When this fault is detected, the wiper outputs are turned off. The wiper will also perform one wipe when changing from sensitivity 4 to sensitivity 3 (steps 1-2) to signal the presence of this fault. If any other sensitivity is set, the wiper does not perform any additional wipe.Rain Sensor Malfunction 3 - No Input Signal. This fault is detected when the wiper is in AUTO mode and the rain sensor input is faulty. The duty cycle of the rain sensor signal corresponds to Fault 3, or the input duty cycle is 0% or 100%. Fault confirmation delay is 1 s. When this fault is detected, the wiper outputs are turned off.
Removal
The rain sensor may malfunction if it is contaminated. Protect the rain sensor surface by keeping the cover in place until installation. The bonding pad on the rain sensor surface has adhesive strength. Be careful when installing the sensor. If the sensor is forcibly separated from the windshield, the sensor or windshield may be damaged. Be careful when removing the sensor.
First, remove the rain sensor cover (A). Be careful not to damage the cover latch by applying excessive force. To release the latch, pull the latch to the side using a small (-) screwdriver (C) inserted into the hole (B).
Disconnect the wire harness connector from the sensor.
The rain sensor module is attached to the windshield with adhesive. When replacing the windshield, remove the rain sensor module from the existing windshield and install it on the new windshield.
Installation
Attach the rain sensor bracket to the windshield using tape.
It is very important that the bonding pad is pressed fully against the windshield to prevent air bubbles from forming at the contact surface.
Connect the rain sensor connector, then install the sensor cover.
