Installing a Child Restraint Using the Tether Anchor

First secure the child restraint using the LATCH lower anchors or the seat belt. If the child restraint manufacturer recommends that the top tether strap be attached, attach and tighten the top tether strap to the tether anchor.
The tether anchor hooks for the child restraint are located on the shelf behind the seatback.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions when installing the tether strap:
- Read and follow all installation instructions supplied with your child restraint system.
- NEVER attach more than one child restraint to a single tether anchor. This may cause the anchor or attachment to come loose or break.
- Do not attach the tether strap to anything other than the correct tether anchor. It may not function properly if attached to something else.
- Do not use tether anchors for seat belts or tether straps for adults, or to attach other items or equipment to the vehicle.
- Always fasten the seat belts around the child seat, even when they are not in use. Always secure the child seat. Failure to do so may result in the child being strangled.

To install the tether anchor:
1. Route the child restraint tether strap over the back of the child restraint. Pass the strap under the headrest and between the headrest posts, or route the tether strap over the top of the vehicle seatback. Make sure the strap is not twisted.
2. Connect the tether hook to the anchor, then tighten the tether strap to fit the child according to the seat manufacturer's instructions to secure the child restraint to the seat.
3. Make sure the child restraint is securely fastened to the seat by pushing and pulling the seat forward and from side to side.
