Side Airbag

Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag on each front seat. The purpose of the side airbag is to provide the driver and/or front passenger with additional protection beyond that offered by the seat belt alone.

• The side airbags are designed to deploy in certain side-impact collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed and point of impact of the crash. However, in a frontal collision where the deployment threshold is met, the side airbags may also deploy.
• The side airbags may deploy on the impact side or on both sides of the vehicle.
• The side airbags and/or curtain airbags on both sides of the vehicle will deploy if a rollover or possible rollover is detected.
• The side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING - Unintended Deployment

Avoid impacts to the side airbag sensor when the engine Start/Stop button is ON to prevent unintended side airbag deployment.

• The side airbag is a supplement to the driver and front passenger seat belt system and is not a replacement for it. Therefore, your seat belts must be worn at all times while the vehicle is in operation.
• For best protection by the side airbag system and to avoid being injured by a deploying side airbag, both front occupants should sit upright with the seat belt properly fastened. The driver's hands should be placed on the steering wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions. The passenger's hands should be placed on the lap.

WARNING - Deployment

Do not install any accessories, including seat covers, on or near the side airbag, as this may affect side airbag deployment.

• If the seat or seat cover is damaged, have the vehicle inspected and repaired by an authorized Kia dealer. Inform the dealer that your vehicle is equipped with side airbags and an occupant detection system.

WARNING - Flying Objects

Do not place any objects (such as umbrellas, bags, etc.) between the front door and the front seat. Such objects may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.

WARNING - Do Not Attach Objects

• Do not place any objects on the airbag or between the airbag and yourself. Also, do not attach any objects around the area where the airbag deploys, such as the door, side window glass, front pillar and rear pillar.
• Do not place any objects between the side airbag label and the seat cushion. They could cause injury if the vehicle is involved in a crash severe enough to deploy the airbags.
• Never place or insert an object into any small opening near the side airbag labels attached to the vehicle seats. When the airbag deploys, the object may interfere with deployment and cause an unexpected accident or personal injury.
• Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbag.
