High Voltage Disconnection Procedure

Be sure to read and observe the "General Safety Information and Caution" before performing any work on the high voltage system. Failure to follow the safety instructions may result in serious electrical injury.
  • High voltage components: High voltage battery pack, Power Relay Assembly (PRA), BMS ECU, Hybrid Power Control Unit (HPCU), Hybrid Traction Motor, HSG, electric A/C compressor, Low voltage DC-DC Converter (LDC), power cable, electric compressor, etc.
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary 12 V battery.
  2. Remove the service plug.
    1. Remove the service plug cover (A).
    2. Unhook the hook (A) and remove the service plug (C) by pulling the lever (B) in the direction of the arrow.
  3. Wait more than 5 minutes so that the capacitors in the high voltage system can fully discharge.
  4. Measure the voltage between the inverter terminals to confirm that the capacitor in the inverter is fully discharged.
    1. Remove the air cleaner assembly and duct (refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner").
    2. Disconnect the inverter power cable (A).
Disconnect the inverter power cable as described below.
    3. Measure the voltage between the inverter terminal (+) and the inverter terminal (-). Less than 30 V: High voltage circuit is properly shut off. More than 30 V: Fault in the high voltage circuit.
If the measured voltage exceeds 30 V even though the service plug has been removed properly, there may be a serious problem in the high voltage circuit. In this case, check the DTCs and never touch the high voltage system.
