Warning Lamp Activation

Warning Lamp Behavior After Ignition ON

As soon as operating voltage is supplied to the SRSCM ignition input, the SRSCM activates the warning lamp for an LED lamp check. The lamp should illuminate for 6 seconds during the initialization phase and then turn off. To warn the driver, the warning lamp illuminates for 6 seconds and turns off for one second, then remains on continuously after operating voltage is supplied if any active fault is present.
  1. The active fault counter or historical fault counter is greater than or equal to 10.
  2. The normal or historical fault counter is less than 10.
  3. When the ignition is turned on during End-of-Line (EOL) variant coding, the airbag warning lamp illuminates and flashes periodically at 1-second intervals until coding is completed. If variant coding is completed normally, the airbag warning lamp illuminates for 6 seconds and then turns off. Otherwise, the airbag warning lamp flashes continuously at 1-second intervals.
    1. If variant coding is completed normally
    2. If variant coding is not completed
If an active fault is present in the airbag system or an internal SRSCM fault exists, End-of-Line (EOL) variant coding cannot be completed. In this case, repeat the EOL variant coding procedure after troubleshooting with GDS.
  4. Loss of SRSCM battery power: warning lamp remains on continuously.
  5. Loss of internal operating voltage: warning lamp remains on continuously.
  6. Loss of microprocessor operation: warning lamp remains on continuously.
  7. SRSCM not connected: warning lamp remains on continuously.
Independent Activation of the SRSCM Warning Lamp: There are certain failure conditions in which the SRSCM cannot function and therefore cannot control the operation of the standard warning lamp. In these cases, the standard warning lamp is activated directly by the corresponding circuit, which operates independently of the SRSCM. These cases are: Passenger Airbag OFF Indicator Lamp Activation: The indicator lamp shows whether the passenger airbag (PAB) is enabled or disabled, depending on the occupant status of the passenger seat. If the passenger seat is empty or occupied by a child (or child seat), the passenger airbag is disabled and the lamp is illuminated to inform the driver that the PAB is off. As soon as operating voltage is supplied to the SRSCM ignition input, the SRSCM activates the control lamp to prove it. The ODS (Occupant Detection System) will send an undetermined status to the SRSCM as the default setting for passenger airbag deployment during the test period. After the ignition is turned on, the warning lamp illuminates for 4 seconds and turns off for 3 seconds during the initialization phase, and remains OFF thereafter until a valid permitted message is received from the ODS.

Replacement of Components After Deployment

If the front airbags were deployed after a collision, replace the following items. Before replacing, make sure all DTCs are cleared. Replace with a new SRSCM.
  • SRSCM
  • Deployed airbag(s)
  • Seat belt pretensioner(s)
  • Seat Belt Pretensioner(s)
  • Front impact sensors
  • SRS wiring harnesses
  • Inspect the clock spring for heat damage. If damage is found, replace the clock spring.
If the side/curtain airbags deployed after a collision, replace the following items.
  • SRSCM
  • Deployed airbag(s)
  • Side impact sensor(s) on the deployed side(s)
  • SRS wiring harnesses
After completing all repairs to the vehicle, make sure the SRS airbag system is functioning properly.
  • Turn the ignition ON; the SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
