In the IGN1 ON state, when the multifunction switch module detects auto light ON, the tail lamp relay output and the low beam relay output are controlled according to the input from the auto light sensor. Automatic light control does not operate if the light sensor power source (regulated 5 V, supplied from IGN1 to the sunlight sensor) is shorted to ground. If IGN1 is on, the IPM monitors the range of this power source and sets a failure as soon as the supply voltage goes out of the permissible range. Then this failure occurs, and while it is present, the headlamps must be kept on regardless of the sunlight level detected by the sensor. This is intended to prevent the headlamps from switching off during the night if a malfunction occurs.
