The Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) is built into the intake manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAPS). The MAP sensor measures pressure and also determines intake air temperature. Air temperature correction is required to accurately calculate the air quantity because air density depends on temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses both the MAPS signal and the IATS signal. This sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor, and its resistance changes inversely with temperature.
