Service Adjustment Procedure

Steering Wheel Play Inspection

   Turn the steering wheel so the front wheels face straight ahead.

   Measure the distance the steering wheel can be turned by moving the front wheels.

   Standard value: 0 ~ 30 mm (1.1811 in) or less

   If the play exceeds the standard value, inspect the steering column, shaft, and connections.

Stationary Steering Effort Inspection

   Place the vehicle on a level surface and set the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
2. 2
   Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to warm up the power steering fluid.
3. 3
   Attach a spring scale to the steering wheel. With the engine speed at 500 ~ 700 rpm, pull the scale and read it as soon as the wheels begin to turn.

   Specification: 3.0 kgf

   If the measured value exceeds the standard value, check the power steering gear and pump.

Power Steering Fluid Replacement

1. 1
   Raise the reservoir, then disconnect the return hose from the reservoir. Be careful not to spill fluid on the body and components. Wipe up any spilled fluid immediately.

   Connect a tube of suitable diameter to the disconnected return hose and place the end of the hose into a suitable container.
3. 3
   Jack up the front wheels and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock until fluid stops flowing from the tube.
4. 4
   Reconnect the return hose to the reservoir.
5. 5
   Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid, then bleed the power steering system.
