Rear Seat Adjustment

~4min read

Head Restraint

The rear seat is equipped with headrests in all seating positions for occupant safety and comfort.

In addition to providing comfort for passengers, the headrest also helps protect the head and neck in the event of a collision.

For maximum effectiveness in the event of an accident, the headrest should be adjusted so that the center of the headrest is at the same height as the center of gravity of the occupant's head. Generally, the center of gravity of most people's head is approximately at the height of the top of their eyes.

Also, adjust the headrest as close to the head as possible. For this reason, the use of a cushion that holds the body away from the seatback is not recommended.

Up and Down Height Adjustment

To raise the head restraint, pull it up to the desired position (1). To lower the head restraint, press and hold the lock button (2) on the head restraint support and lower the head restraint to the desired position (3).

Removal and Installation

To remove the head restraint, raise it to the stop, then press the lock button (1) while pulling the head restraint up (2).

To reinstall the headrest, insert the headrest posts (3) into the holes while pressing the release button (1). Then adjust it to the appropriate height and make sure it locks in position.

Armrest

To use the armrest, pull it forward from the seatback.

Folding the Rear Seat

The rear seat backs can be folded down to facilitate transporting long items or to increase the cargo capacity of the vehicle.

WARNING

The folding rear seatbacks allow you to carry longer items that could not otherwise be accommodated.

Never allow passengers to sit on a folded seatback while the vehicle is moving. This is not a proper seating position and no seat belts are available for use. This may result in serious injury or death in a crash or sudden stop. Items carried on a folded seatback must not extend higher than the top of the front seats. Otherwise, cargo may slide forward and cause injury or damage during sudden stops.

To fold the rear seatback

1. Make sure the rear seat belt webbing is in the guide to prevent damage.

2. Place the front seatback in the upright position and, if necessary, move the front seat forward.

3. Lower the rear headrests to their lowest position.

4. Pull the seatback folding lever (1), then fold the seatback forward.

5. To use the rear seat, lift and move the seatback rearward. Push the seatback firmly rearward until it locks into place with a click. Make sure the seatback is secured.

6. Return the rear seat belt to its correct position.

CAUTION

Be careful when loading cargo through the rear passenger seats to avoid damaging the vehicle interior.

WARNING

If the driver's seating position is not properly set according to your physique, do not fold down the rear seat. This may increase the risk of body injury in a sudden stop or collision.

WARNING - Upright Seating

When returning the seatback to the upright position, hold the seatback and return it slowly. If the seatback is returned without holding it, the seatback may spring forward, which may cause injury from being struck by the seatback.

WARNING

When returning the rear seatback to the upright position after folding down: be careful not to damage the seat belt webbing or buckle. Do not allow the seat belt webbing or buckle to be pinched or caught by the rear seatback. Make sure the seatback is fully locked in the upright position by pressing on the top of the seatback. Otherwise, the seatback may fold down in a crash or sudden stop and allow cargo to enter the passenger compartment, which may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING - Damage to Rear Seat Belt Buckles

When folding the rear seatback, insert the buckle between the rear seatback and the cushion. This helps prevent the buckle from being damaged by the seatback.

CAUTION - Rear Seat Belts

When returning the rear seatbacks to the upright position, make sure the rear shoulder belts are correctly positioned.

WARNING - Cargo

Cargo must always be secured to prevent it from being thrown around the vehicle in a collision and injuring vehicle occupants. Do not place items on the rear seats, as they cannot be properly secured and may strike the front passenger seatback in a collision.

WARNING - Loading Cargo

Make sure the engine is off, the transmission is in P (Park), and the parking brake is firmly applied when loading or unloading cargo. Failure to take these steps may allow the vehicle to move if the shift lever is accidentally moved to another position.

WARNING! Objects

Items carried on a folded-down rear seatback must not extend above the top of the front seatbacks. Otherwise, the cargo may slide forward and cause injury or damage during sudden stops.
