Quiz: how well do you know your Kia Stinger CK?

22 questions. After each answer you get a short explanation and a link to the manual page that covers it in detail.

Your Stinger's exterior mirror is frozen and won't move. What should you use to free it?
Approved de-icer spray, or move the car somewhere warm. Never scrape ice off the mirror or force it; use approved de-icing spray (not radiator antifreeze), a sponge or soft cloth with very warm water. The page also explains the right mirror is convex. Outside Rear View Mirror

What is the tightening torque for the wheel nuts when removing the rear wheel for rear axle work on the Stinger?
107,9–128 N·m. Wheel nuts are tightened to 107.9–128 N·m. The page lists torques for every arm and bolt in the rear axle removal sequence. Rear Axle Assembly

Where is the VIN stamped on the Stinger body?
Under the driver's or front passenger's seat, beneath a cover. The VIN is stamped under the driver's or front passenger seat (open the cover). It is also on a plate on top of the dashboard, visible through the windshield. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Vehicle Certification Label

What should you do when an oncoming car's headlights are bright at night?
Avoid looking directly at the headlights. Looking at oncoming lights can blind you temporarily, and eyes need seconds to readjust. Other night tips: keep more distance and keep headlights clean. Night Driving

Why does the Stinger's ISG system use a DC/DC converter?
To stabilise voltage for sensitive components during frequent starts. Frequent restarts cause voltage dips, so the DC/DC converter keeps supply steady. It sits behind the glove box and works in bypass or booster mode. DC-DC Converter

What is the specified resistance of the damper clutch control solenoid (D/C VFS) between the power and signal terminals?
5,1 ± 0,3 Ом. Spec is 5.1 ± 0.3 Ω. When removing it, the ATF drain plug's O-ring must be replaced with a new one, though the ATF itself can be reused. Damper Clutch Control Solenoid Valve (D/C_VFS)

Which driving condition counts as severe use for the turbo Stinger's maintenance schedule?
Repeated trips under 8 km (5 miles) at normal temperature. Repeated short trips under 8 km (16 km in freezing temperatures) are severe use. So are towing, dusty roads and speeds over 170 km/h, all requiring more frequent service. Severe Maintenance — Turbocharged Models

What should you never do around the Stinger's curtain airbag deployment area?
Attach objects or hang hard items on the clothes hook. Never put or attach objects on or around airbag deployment areas (door, glass, pillars, roof rail) or hang hard items on the hook. Repairs must be done by an authorized Kia dealer. Curtain Airbag

When changing a tyre on the Stinger, when should you loosen the wheel nuts?
One turn each before the tyre leaves the ground. Loosen the nuts one turn each counterclockwise, but don't remove them until the tyre is raised. Also chock the wheel diagonally opposite the one being changed. Tire Replacement

What is the best way to tow a Stinger?
On a flatbed truck. A flatbed is the best method; permanent AWD vehicles should only be transported on a flatbed. Hook and chain can seriously damage suspension and body. Tow/Haul

Before installing the high-pressure fuel pump, what position should the roller tappet be set to by turning the crankshaft?
The lowest position. Set the roller tappet lowest, otherwise the mounting bolts may break from pump spring tension. Tighten the bolts by hand first, then in 0.5-turn steps; never reuse them. High pressure fuel pump

When replacing the transfer case oil seal, what must you do with the old seal and retaining ring?
Never reuse them; fit new ones. Oil seals and the snap ring must not be reused. After fitting a seal, check for gaps; the rear flange also needs a new O-ring. Oil seal

What does the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) do when open on the Stinger?
Sends fuel vapour from the canister to the intake manifold. When the ECM grounds the control line, PCSV opens and stored fuel vapour goes to the intake manifold. Its resistance should be 22.0–26.0 Ω at 20 °C. Purge Control Solenoid Valve (PCSV)

What tightening torque applies to the rear wheel speed sensor bolt?
6,9–10,8 Н·м. The sensor bolt is 6.9–10.8 N·m. When checking output, use a 100 Ω resistor to protect the sensor. Rear Wheel Speed Sensor

Why shouldn't you start high-pressure fuel component work on the Stinger right after the engine stops?
Leaking high-pressure fuel can cause injury. Fuel may spray at high pressure. Also wait until coolant temperature falls before removing the cylinder head, to avoid damaging it. Cylinder head cover

What is the tightening torque for the Stinger battery terminal clamps?
7,8–9,8 Н·м. Both terminal clamps use 7.8–9.8 N·m. If the positive clamp is loose, disconnect the negative terminal first to prevent injury. Battery

If the auto light sensor circuit fails in the Stinger, what do the headlights do?
Turn on regardless of sunlight. On failure the headlamp is switched on regardless of sunlight, so lights can't stay off at night. BCM flags a fault when sensor supply is outside 4–6 V. Automatic Light Sensor

What should you do if an EPS motor or torque sensor is dropped or damaged?
Replace it with a new one. Dropped or struck EPS parts must be replaced. The EPS unit in the column can't be disassembled, and connectors should only be changed with ignition off. Electric power steering

When is steering column position memory playback allowed on the Stinger?
Never while driving, for safety. Playback while driving is prohibited, with an emergency stop function. The IMS switch stores tilt and telescopic positions for 3 drivers, and the smart key for 2. Steering Column and Shaft

What detects a frontal or side crash and decides airbag deployment in the Stinger's SRS?
The SRSCM with its impact sensors. The SRSCM uses frontal and side impact sensors plus an accelerometer. It also has a backup power supply for deployment energy at low voltage. Restraints

After replacing the fuel filler door on the Stinger, what must you verify?
That it locks, unlocks and opens/closes normally. Check lock/unlock and open/close operation and replace damaged clips. Use a plastic panel remover to avoid scratching trim. Fuel Filler Door

At what ride height should the rear assist arm be installed after reassembly?
Unladen vehicle height. Tighten at unladen vehicle height, then check alignment. Support the lower arm with a transmission jack to remove the arm without load. Rear Toe Control Arm
