In the IGN2 ON state, if the automatic switching input (LIN communication) is enabled, both the wiper relay and low-speed relay outputs are controlled by the rain sensor input signal.
If the wiper switch was left in AUTO mode when the vehicle ignition was turned OFF, a single wipe will be performed when the vehicle ignition is turned back ON.
When rain is detected, a single wipe will be performed (Rain Detected signal from the rain sensor) and the wiper switch moves to the AUTO position. However, a single wipe will not be performed when the wiper switch is moved to the AUTO position and an OFF signal is received from the rain sensor. However, if the wiper switch is moved to the AUTO position for the first time after the vehicle ignition is turned ON, a single wipe will be performed regardless of the Rain Detected or OFF signal.
The driver can adjust the rain sensor operation by adjusting the sensitivity input. In AUTO mode, the BCM will perform a single wipe each time the sensitivity is adjusted up to a more sensitive setting (down by more than one step). This single wipe will only be performed if the Rain Detected signal is received from the rain sensor. If the sensitivity is adjusted up by more than one step, the BCM will perform only one wipe if the time between adjustments is more than 2 seconds.
Rain Sensor Fault Strategy: Rain Sensor Fault 1 - Internal Fault Detected. This fault is detected when the wiper is in AUTO mode and the rain sensor input from the faulty rain sensor has a duty cycle corresponding to Fault 1. Fault confirmation delay is 1 second. When this fault is detected, the wiper outputs are turned OFF, and the wiper will also perform a slow-speed wipe when changing from sensitivity 3 to sensitivity 2 (steps 2–3) to indicate the presence of this fault. If another sensitivity is set, the wiper will not perform any additional wipe.Rain Sensor Fault 2 - Glass Mounting Fault Detected. This fault is detected when the wiper is in AUTO mode and the rain sensor input from the faulty rain sensor has a duty cycle corresponding to Fault 2. Fault confirmation delay is 1 s. When this fault is detected, the wiper outputs are turned OFF, and the wiper will also perform a wipe when changing from sensitivity 4 to sensitivity 3 (steps 1–2) to indicate the presence of this fault. If another sensitivity is set, the wiper will not perform any additional action.Rain Sensor Fault 3 - No Input Signal. This fault is detected when the wiper is in AUTO mode and the rain sensor input from the faulty rain sensor has a duty cycle corresponding to Fault 3, or when the duty cycle of the rain sensor input is 0% or 100%. Fault confirmation delay is 1 s. When this fault is detected, the wiper outputs are turned OFF.
Removal
First remove the rain sensor cover. Be careful not to damage the cover latch by applying excessive force. To release the latch, pull the latch to the side using the opening in the cover (B) with a small flat-blade screwdriver (A).
Disconnect the wire harness connector from the sensor.
The rain sensor module is attached to the windshield with adhesive. When replacing the windshield, remove the rain sensor module from the existing windshield and install it on the new windshield.
Installation
Attach the rain sensor bracket to the windshield using tape.
Connect the rain sensor connector, then install the sensor cover.
