Child Seat Installation Using the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) System

Some child seat manufacturers produce child restraints marked LATCH or LATCH-compatible. LATCH stands for "Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren". These seats include two rigid or strap-type connectors that attach to two LATCH anchors at designated seating positions in your vehicle. This type of child restraint eliminates the need to use the seat belts to secure the child seat to the rear seat.

Child restraint symbols are located on the backrests of the left and right rear seats to indicate the position of the lower anchorages for child restraints.
WARNING - Unused Rear Seat Belts
Always secure the seat belts behind the child restraint when they are not being used to secure a child seat. Failure to do so may result in child strangulation.
Your vehicle is equipped with LATCH anchors. The LATCH anchors are located at the left and right rear outboard seating positions. Their location is shown in the illustration. LATCH lower anchors are not provided for the center rear seating position.
The LATCH anchors are located between the seatback and the seat cushion of the rear seat left and right outboard seating positions.
When installing a child restraint system using the LATCH buckle, route the shoulder belt, then lock the retractor and pull the belt to remove any slack in the belt so that it fits snugly against the vehicle seat.
Follow the child seat manufacturer's instructions to properly install child restraints with LATCH or LATCH-compatible anchors.
After installing a LATCH child restraint, make sure the seat is securely attached to the LATCH lower anchors and the tether anchor.
In addition, check the child restraint before seating a child in it. Rock the seat from side to side. Also try to pull the seat forward. Check that the anchors are holding the seat in place.
WARNING! LATCH the lower anchors.
Never attempt to install a LATCH child seat in the center seating position. LATCH lower anchors must only be used with the left and right rear outboard seating positions. The anchors may be damaged, or the anchors may fail and break in a collision.
