12 V sockets. Mercedes-Benz emergency call system

~2min read

The 12 V sockets in the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) allow accessories up to 180 watts to be connected. This section describes the locations of the sockets and gives information on safe use to avoid discharging the battery. The emergency call system is also explained.

12 V sockets

General Notes

Turn the key in the ignition lock to position 1.

You can use the sockets for accessories of up to a maximum of 180 W (15 A) each. Accessories include, e.g., chargers for mobile phones.

If the engine is switched off and the sockets are used for a long time, the battery may discharge.

An emergency shutdown ensures that the on-board voltage does not drop too far. If the on-board voltage is too low, the sockets are switched off automatically. This keeps enough power available to start the engine.

Question: Why should cooling with air dehumidification not be switched off permanently?

Answer: Otherwise the windows may fog up and the cooling performance will be reduced.

Question: What does "recirculated-air mode" mean?

Answer: The air inside the vehicle is recirculated without drawing in fresh air from outside. This is helpful when outside air conditions are poor.
