General Notes

~1min read

The section “General notes” of the Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) explains that the brief illumination of indicator lamps when the ignition is switched on is part of the self-test. Only lamps that remain lit while driving indicate a malfunction and require attention.

When the ignition is switched on, some systems perform a self-test. Some warning and indicator lamps may briefly light up or flash during this. This behavior is not critical. Only when these warning and indicator lamps light up or flash after engine start or while driving do they indicate a malfunction.

The general notes for the Mercedes E-Class W212 (model years 2009–2016) emphasize how important it is to interpret warning lamps and messages correctly. Briefly lighting up during the system test is normal and nothing to worry about.

Mercedes places great importance on drivers being well informed about the displays so they can react quickly and correctly in an emergency.
