Towing hitch. Installation dimensions

The towing hitch and its installation dimensions on the Mercedes E-Class (4th gen, W212, 2009–2016) are important factors for safe towing. This section explains the attachment points and overhang dimensions and gives tips for retrofitting.

Note If you have a towing hitch retrofitted, changes to the engine cooling system may be required depending on the vehicle model.

When retrofitting a towing hitch, observe the attachment points on the chassis frame.

For a towing hitch fitted at the factory, the overhang dimension including the cover cap is:

• 1253 mm (saloon)
• 1278 mm (estate)
