The permissible towing capacities of the Mercedes E-Class (4th gen, W212, 2009–2016) are shown in detail in this section. Drivers find clear figures for braked and unbraked trailers, as well as recommendations for the optimum nose weight, to ensure driving safety.

Note Make the most of the maximum permissible nose weight where possible. Do not fall below a nose weight of 50 kg, otherwise the trailer may come loose.

Note that the payload and rear axle load are reduced by the actual nose weight.

Towing is not possible on all models. More information follows.

However, the actual nose weight must not exceed the value stated on
  • the rating plate of the towing hitch and
  • the rating plate of the trailer
The lowest value applies.

You can mount carrier systems, e.g. bicycle carriers or luggage carriers, on the towball. When using carrier systems on the towball, the maximum nose weight is 75 kg.
