The Mercedes E-Class (4th generation, W212, 2009–2016) offers comfort features such as comfort opening and closing of the windows as well as the residual heat function. These features increase operating convenience and contribute to safety by quickly ventilating or warming the vehicle. Operation is via easily reached buttons.

Comfort opening or comfort closing with the recirculated-air button

WARNING

During comfort closing, body parts can be trapped in the closing area of the side window and the sliding roof. There is a risk of injury!

Monitor the entire closing process during comfort closing. When closing, make sure no body parts are in the closing area.

WARNING

During comfort opening, body parts can be drawn in or trapped between the side window and the window frame. There is a risk of injury!

When opening, make sure that no one touches the side window. If someone becomes trapped, immediately press the buttonto open/close the side windows in the door. The side windows stop. To close the side windows again, pull the button.

Comfort closing: buttonpress until the side windows and the sunroof or panoramic sunroof close.

  • The indicator lamp above the buttonlights up. Recirculated-air mode is switched on.

    If body parts are in the closing area during comfort closing, proceed as follows:

    Buttonpress to stop the side windows.

  • The side windows stop.

    To open the side windows afterwards, press the button againpress.

    Buttonpress to stop the sunroof or panoramic sunroof.
  • The sunroof or panoramic sunroof stops.

    To open the sunroof or panoramic sunroof afterwards, press the buttonpull backward.

    Comfort opening: buttonpress until the side windows and the sunroof or panoramic sunroof open. The side windows and the sunroof or panoramic sunroof move back to their original position.

    If you open the side windows, sunroof or panoramic sunroof manually after comfort closing, they remain in this position during comfort opening.

    Switch residual heat on or off

    General Notes

    The residual heat function is only available with THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control.

    When the engine is switched off, the residual heat of the engine can heat the vehicle for about 30 more minutes. The heating duration depends on the set interior temperature.

    Arming and disarming

    Turn the key in the ignition lock to position 0 or remove it.Switching on: press buttonpress.

    When residual heat is switched on, the windows may fog up from the inside.

    Regardless of the set air volume, the blower runs at low speed.

    If you switch on the residual heat function at high temperatures, only the ventilation switches on. The blower runs at medium speed.

    Switching off: press buttonpress.

    • after about 30 minutes
    • when the ignition is switched on
    • when the battery voltage drops
    • when the auxiliary heater is switched on.

    The Mercedes E-Class W212 (model years 2009–2016) offers a well-designed comfort opening and closing system for more convenience in everyday use. The side windows and sunroof can be easily controlled with the recirculated-air button.

    The residual heat function keeps the interior comfortably warm even after the engine is switched off – another advantage on cold days.

    With these functions, the E-Class shows how comfort and safety can be combined harmoniously.
