The catalytic converter reduces the amount of harmful substances in the exhaust gases.

Notice

Fuel qualities other than those specified on pages 192, 260 could damage the catalytic converter or electronic components.

Unburned fuel overheats and damages the catalytic converter. Therefore, avoid excessive use of the starter motor, driving until the fuel tank is empty, and starting the engine by pushing or towing the vehicle.

In case of misfires, irregular engine operation, reduced engine performance or other unusual problems, have the cause of the fault remedied as soon as possible. In an emergency, you may continue driving for a short period at low engine speed and reduced speed.
