Towing a trailer or caravan
We recommend using genuine PEUGEOT towing hitches and wiring harnesses, which were tested and approved when your vehicle was designed, and having this equipment fitted by a PEUGEOT dealer.
If the towing hitch is fitted outside a PEUGEOT dealer, it must be fitted using the electrical provisions at the rear of the vehicle and the manufacturer's recommendations.
Driving tips
Load distribution: distribute the load in the trailer so that the heaviest items are as close as possible to the axle and the nose weight approaches the maximum permitted, without exceeding it.
Cooling: towing a trailer uphill increases the coolant temperature.
As the fan is electrically operated, its cooling capacity does not depend on engine speed.
On vehicles fitted with an HDI engine, after intensive use (motorway towing, sustained driving, etc.), it is recommended to let the engine idle for about 20 seconds before switching off the ignition. This limits engine temperature rise after shutdown.
In all cases, monitor the coolant temperature.
Note: in particularly demanding conditions (towing maximum load in high temperatures), the engine automatically limits its power and the automatic gearbox selects a suitable gear in manual mode. In this case, switching off the air conditioning recovers engine power and therefore improves towing capacity.
If the coolant temperature warning light comes on, stop the vehicle and switch off the engine as soon as possible.
Tyres: check the tyre pressures of the towing vehicle (label on the driver's side centre pillar) and of the trailer, observing the recommended pressures.
Brakes: towing increases braking distance. Drive at moderate speed, downshift in good time and brake progressively.
Crosswind: sensitivity to crosswinds is increased. Drive smoothly and at moderate speed.
Lighting
Automatic levelling
To avoid dazzling other road users, this system automatically adjusts the height of the xenon headlamp beam according to the vehicle load after approximately 2 minutes. The driver can then be sure of optimum lighting.
