ELECTRONIC IGNITION SYSTEM
Engines of types 2.0 I/85 kW or 2.3 I/100 kW with catalytic converters are equipped with an electronic ignition system with ignition angle control. The system automatically distributes high-voltage pulses to the spark plugs to provide the optimum ignition timing depending on the fuel grade, with only a slight loss of engine power. The optimum ignition timing is selected automatically, taking into account engine load and crankshaft speed. The combustion process in the cylinders is monitored by a knock sensor. If incomplete combustion occurs in one of the cylinders, the ignition advance angle is automatically adjusted accordingly (so-called
individual cylinder control).
Thus, the ignition system together with the fuel mixture formation system automatically selects and maintains optimum operating modes: engine power, reduction of harmful substances in the exhaust gases, and normal engine operation on regular gasoline.
