Removal and Installation of Radiator and Fan

REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable with the ignition switched off.

CAUTION

As a result, information stored in electronic memory modules, such as the radio code, will be erased. Without the code, the radio can only be activated by the manufacturer or an AUDI service center. Therefore, refer to the subsection Entering Radio Code.

2. Remove the front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation of Bumpers.

3. Drain the coolant.

4. Disconnect the hoses from the radiator by removing the side clamps.

5. Disconnect the thermo-switch connector (on the radiator) and the fan connector.

6. Remove the bumper mounting bolts –1– on both sides of the vehicle.

7. Loosen the mounting bolts –2– on both sides without removing them. Specifically for vehicles with air conditioning:

CAUTION

Do not open the air conditioning refrigerant circuit. Contact of the fluid with skin may cause frostbite.

Do not twist, compress or bend air conditioning lines and hoses.

8. Remove the mounting bolts –4– and detach the condenser from the radiator. Refer to the accompanying illustration.

9. Secure the condenser to the body (suspend it) so that the cooling system lines/hoses are not loaded. All vehicles:

10. Remove the 4 radiator mounting bolts –3–. Lower the radiator with the fan. INSTALLATION

11. If new parts are installed, secure them as follows:

12. Fan bracket to 10 N·m, bolts –1–.

13. Thermo-switch –2– to 35 N·m.

14. Install brackets –3– and –4– on the radiator.

15. Install the radiator with an assistant and tighten to 10 N·m.

16. Vehicles with air conditioning: Tighten the condenser to 10 N·m.

17. Install the front panel. Refer to Removal and Installation of Hood Lock Panel.

18. Connect the thermo-switch and fan connectors.

19. Install the cooling system hoses on the radiator with new O-rings and secure with clamps.

20. Install the front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation of Bumpers.

21. Connect the negative cable (–) to the battery.

CAUTION

Activate the power window safety function, enter the radio code and set the clock. Refer to the subsection Entering the Radio Code.

22. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to the subsection Coolant Replacement.
