Engine Cooling System

Cooling System Pressure Test

~1min read

GENERAL INFORMATION

The system tightness and the operation of the pressure relief valve in the radiator cap can be checked using tester 4800-1.

PROCEDURE

1. Warm up the engine until the gauge indicates normal coolant operating temperature.

CAUTION

When the engine is hot, before opening the expansion tank, cover it with a thick cloth to prevent ejection of hot fluid and vapor, which may cause burns. The cap may only be opened when the coolant temperature is below +90°C.

2. Install a pressure tester, e.g. HAZET 4800-1 with adapter 4800-, onto the expansion tank neck.

5.

3. Use the tester's hand pump to build up an excess pressure of approximately 1.0 bar and maintain it. If the pressure drops, visually check the system for leaks and eliminate them.

4. To check the pressure relief valve, install HAZET 4800-1 tester with adapter 4800- onto the expansion tank cap.

5. Use the hand pump to build up excess pressure. The pressure relief valve must open at 1.4 – 1.6 bar.
