Removing and Installing Fuel Filter

REMOVAL

The fuel filter –1– is located on the underbody in front of the fuel tank, viewed in the direction of travel. The filter does not need to be replaced as part of routine maintenance.

CAUTION

Some fuel may leak out when removing the fuel pump. Fuel vapors are toxic and flammable, so make sure the work area is particularly well ventilated. Avoid getting fuel on your skin. Wear fuel-resistant gloves. Do not use open flames. There is a risk of fire! Keep a fire extinguisher ready.

PROCEDURE

1. Raise the vehicle and support it on stands. Place a container under the fuel filter –1– to catch leaking fuel.

2. Clamp off the fuel hoses 2/3 with suitable hose clamps, e.g. HAZET.

3. Squeeze the quick-release couplings and disconnect the fuel hoses from the filter. Cover the connection with a thick cloth. Then, disconnecting the hose carefully, relieve the pressure.

4. Detach the bracket –4– by unscrewing bolt –5–.

CAUTION

The filter is filled with fuel.

INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE

1. Install the new fuel filter so that the marking on the filter points in the direction from the tank to the engine. 7 – to the fuel distribution line at the engine.

2. Connect the hoses and make sure the couplings are secured.

3. Drive the vehicle and check the hose connections for leaks.
