Vehicle battery
The vehicle battery in the BMW 5 Series (G30) is maintenance-free, but its state of charge should be checked regularly. This chapter provides information on safety aspects, the correct connection of battery chargers and recommended chargers for charging the battery via jump-starting points. After a power interruption, comfort functions such as the clock or memory seat positions must be reinitialized. The proper disposal of old batteries is also explained, including transport and storage instructions. Good battery care not only increases the reliability of the vehicle, but also protects the environment.
General
The battery is maintenance-free.
The electrolyte level is sufficient for the service life of the battery.
For more information about the battery, contact a manufacturer service partner, another qualified service partner, or a qualified workshop.
The vehicle manufacturer recommends having the vehicle battery registered to the vehicle after replacement by a manufacturer service partner, another qualified service partner, or a qualified workshop, so that all comfort functions are fully available and, if necessary,
Check Control messages for these comfort functions are no longer displayed.
Safety information
NOTE Vehicle batteries that have been classified as unsuitable may damage systems or cause functions to stop working. There is a risk of property damage. Only use vehicle batteries that have been approved as suitable by the vehicle manufacturer.
Charging the battery
General
Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged to ensure its full service life.
Charging the battery may be necessary in the following cases:
- During frequent short trips.
- When the vehicle is parked for more than one month.
Safety information
NOTICE Battery chargers for the vehicle battery can operate with high voltages and high currents, which can overload or damage the 12 V on-board electrical system. There is a risk of property damage.
Connect battery chargers for the vehicle battery only to the jump-start points in the engine compartment.
Jump-starting points
Charge only with the engine switched off, via the jump-starting points 337 in the engine compartment.
Battery charger
Battery chargers specially developed for the vehicle and matched to the on-board electrical system are available from a manufacturer service partner, another qualified service partner, or a qualified workshop.
Power interruption
Power interruption: After a power interruption, some equipment must be reinitialized or individual settings must be updated, e.g.:
- Memory function: Store positions again.
- Time: Update.
- Date: Update.
- Sunroof: Initialize system.
Disposing of old battery
Have old batteries disposed of by a manufacturer service partner, another qualified service partner or a specialist workshop, or take them to a collection point.
Transport and store filled batteries upright. Secure against tipping over during transport.
The central locking of the BMW 5 Touring (model years 2017–2024) combines convenience with a high level of security. It allows you to control the doors, luggage compartment and fuel filler flap centrally, either by remote or by the switch in the interior. Individual settings, such as locking or unlocking specific doors, can also be defined in the menu.
A particularly useful option is the ability to configure the vehicle so that it locks automatically when it starts moving, which contributes to safety in urban traffic. The information on emergency unlocking completes the concept and shows that every situation is covered.
The BMW 5 Touring thus proves that modern technology offers practical benefits and protection in everyday use.
