Petrol engines

Do not refuel with leaded petrol, as it causes irreversible damage to the oxygen sensors and catalytic converter.

Petrol with reduced sulphur content may be used.

Knock control allows the use of different grades of petrol.

► Your BMW engine is designed for: SUPER PLUS petrol – RON 98.

This grade is preferred because it allows the rated engine output and fuel consumption to be achieved.

► Refuelling is permitted with:

unleaded SUPER petrol – RON 95.

This petrol may be designated: DIN EN 228 or EURO-SUPER.

► Minimum requirement:

standard unleaded petrol – RON 91.

Export version designed for leaded petrol: in addition to the grades listed above, the vehicle may be refuelled with leaded petrol RON 98, RON 95 and RON 91.

Minimum quality grade – petrol RON 91.

Diesel engines

Do not refuel the vehicle with rapeseed methyl ester (RME), biodiesel or petrol – risk of engine damage.

► Your BMW engine is designed for: diesel fuel to DIN EN 590.

Version designed for rapeseed methyl ester: important information on operating the vehicle with rapeseed methyl ester can be found in a separate manual.

Winter diesel fuel: to ensure reliable diesel engine operation in cold weather, use winter diesel fuel, which is sold at filling stations at this time of year. The series-fitted fuel filter heating prevents fuel from thickening while driving.

Do not add fuel additives or petrol to the fuel – risk of engine damage.
