Break-in
A new vehicle must be broken in so that its moving parts and assemblies wear in against each other. Observe the instructions below. This will extend the service life of the vehicle and make its operation more economical.
Engine and final drive
Observe the speed limits in effect in the country of travel.
Mileage up to 2000 km
Vary engine speed and vehicle speed during break-in, but make sure that engine speed and vehicle speed do not exceed the following values:
► Vehicles with gasoline engine:
4500 rpm and 160 km/h.
► Vehicles with diesel engine:
3500 rpm and 150 km/h.
When operating the accelerator pedal, avoid full-throttle positions and kickdown.
Mileage over 2000 km
Engine speed and vehicle speed may be gradually increased.
Tires
Due to the manufacturing technology, new tires achieve optimum road grip only after break-in. Therefore, drive with restraint during the first 300 km.
Brake System
Brake pads and discs achieve optimum mutual contact after approximately 500 km of driving. Until break-in is complete, drive with restraint.
After Replacing Components and Parts
These break-in rules must also be observed after replacing the above-mentioned assemblies and components.
