When closing the sunroof, monitor the process from start to finish: risk of injury

When leaving the vehicle, always take the keys with you and close the doors. This prevents children, for example, from operating the sunroof and protects them from accidental injury.◄

Ignition key in position 1 or higher.

Tilting the sunroof

Press the switch.

► If the sunroof lid was closed, it tilts up and its sliding panel moves slightly back.

► If the lid was open, it automatically moves to the tilted position. The sliding panel remains fully open.

Do not attempt to forcibly close the sliding panel while the sunroof is tilted up, as this may damage its mechanism.◄

Opening and closing

► Slide the switch rearward to the first detent.

The sunroof glass and sliding panel open as long as the switch is held in this position.

► Slide the switch rearward past the second detent.

The sunroof lid and sliding panel open automatically. Pressing the switch again stops the opening process.

The sunroof closes in the same way, but the switch must be pushed forward. The sliding panel remains open and must be closed by hand.

For comfort operation via the remote control or the door lock

After switching off the ignition

Sunroof operation remains available:

► in position 1 – indefinitely;
► in position 0 or with the ignition key removed – for 1 minute.

Automatic opening and closing

Press the switch past the second detent.

All further processes are automated:

► If the sunroof lid is open and you press the switch in the "Tilt" direction, the sunroof lid fully tilts up.

► If the sunroof lid is tilted up and you press the switch in the "Open" direction, the sunroof lid fully opens.

Pressing the switch again stops the sunroof lid.

Anti-trapping function

If the sunroof lid encounters an obstacle after traveling halfway during closing, it stops and opens slightly.

The same occurs when closing the sunroof from the raised position.

In any case, make sure there are no obstacles in the path of the sunroof lid, because in rare cases (for example, if a thin object is in the path of the lid) the injury protection function may not operate.

If the switch is pressed past the detent and held in this position, the anti-trapping function is deactivated.◄

After a Power Interruption

After a power interruption, the sunroof may only tilt up. In this case, the system must be initialized. To do this, contact a BMW service center.

Manual Operation

If the electrical system malfunctions, the roof can be operated manually:

1. Lower the lid. If necessary, use the screwdriver from the vehicle tool kit.

2. Take the hex key from the vehicle tool kit and insert it into the designated hole.

Move the sunroof lid in the required direction by turning the key. The arrow shows the direction of rotation for closing the lid.
