Checking Engine Oil Level on 545i and Diesel Engines

1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature by driving at least 10 km, and park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Switch off the engine.
3. After approx. 5 minutes, remove oil dipstick 4 and wipe it with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
4. Carefully insert the dipstick fully into the tube, then pull it out again.

The normal level is between the two marks on the dipstick.

The difference in level between the two marks on the oil dipstick corresponds to approx. 1.5 liters.

Do not add oil above the upper mark. Excess oil can damage the engine.
