Child seats
GM child seats designed to fit the vehicle are recommended.
When using child seats, follow the instructions below for use and installation, as well as the child seat manufacturer's instructions.
Observe the applicable laws in your country without exception. In some countries, a child seat may only be installed in specific locations.
Warning DANGER - EXTREME HAZARD Never install a rear-facing child seat on a seat protected by an airbag! Airbag inflation can cause serious injury to the child, as the child's head is very close to the airbag. Warning If a child seat is to be installed on the front passenger seat, the airbag system for that seat must be deactivated; otherwise, airbag deployment may cause fatal injury to the child. This applies in particular when transporting a child in a rear-facing child seat.
Deactivating the airbags.
Selecting the right child seat
The rear seats are the best location for installing a child seat.
Children should be transported rear-facing for as long as possible. In an accident, this reduces the risk of injury to the child's spine, which is much less robust than an adult's.
Children up to 12 years of age and under 150 cm in height may travel only in a child seat.
Only child seats approved to ECE 44-03 or ECE 44-04 may be used. Because children under 150 cm rarely fit a seat belt correctly, it is recommended to transport such a child in an appropriate child seat, even if the child's age no longer requires it.
Check the locally applicable regulations on the use of child seats.
Never hold a child in your arms while driving. In a collision, the forces make the child too heavy to be held safely.
The child seat must be suited to the child's body weight.
Check that the child seat is compatible with the vehicle type.
Check that the installation location in the vehicle is suitable.
A child should get in and out of the vehicle only on the curb or shoulder side.
If the child seat is not in use, secure it with the seat belt or remove it from the vehicle.
Caution Do not cover or wrap the child seat with additional materials.
A child seat that has been subjected to loads during a traffic accident must be replaced with a new one.
Be a responsible parent - always transport infants and children in an appropriate child seat secured to the rear seat.
Until the child is able to use the seat belts, use a child seat suitable for the child's age and make sure the child uses it correctly. Read the instruction manual for the child seat being used.
