Engine oil
Engine oils differ in quality and viscosity. When selecting engine oil, note that quality is more important than viscosity.
Engine Oil Quality for European Service Schedule
GM-LL-A-025 = Gasoline engines
ACEA-C3 = Diesel engines
GM = General otors urope
LL = Longlife
A, B or C = Engine oil quality requirements
025 = Approval code
Engine Oil Quality for International Service Schedule
ACEA-A3/B3, ACEA-A3/B4, API SM = Gasoline engines
ACEA-C3 = Diesel engines
Engine Oil Top-Up
Engine oils from different manufacturers and brands may be mixed if they meet the engine oil requirements (quality and viscosity).
If engine oil of the required quality is not available, no more than 1 liter of ACEA A3/B4 or A3/B3 oil may be used (no more than once per oil change). The oil must have the appropriate viscosity.
Do not use ACEA A1/B1 or A5/B5 oils under any circumstances, as under certain operating conditions they may cause long-term damage to the engine.
Engine Oil Additives
Using engine oil additives may cause engine damage and will void the warranty.
Engine Oil Viscosity
Use engine oil of the following viscosity grades:
GM-LL-A-025, ACEA-A3/B3 = For temperatures below -25 °C:
0W-30, 0W-40 For temperatures below -25 °C:
5W-30, 5W-40
ACEA-C3 = For temperatures below -25 °C:
0W-40 For temperatures below -25 °C:
5W-40
For 1.6EX engine only:
ACEA-A3/B3, ACEA-A3/B4, API SM = For temperatures below -25 °C:
0W-30, 0W-40 For temperatures below -25 °C:
5W-30, 5W-40 For temperatures below -20 °C:
10W-30, 10W-40 For temperatures below -15 °C:
15W-30, 15W-40
The SAE viscosity grade defines the ability of the oil to flow. In cold weather, engine oils become thicker than in warm weather.
Multigrade oil is designated by two numbers. The first number, followed by the letter W, indicates viscosity at low temperature, and the second number indicates viscosity at high temperature.
