Manual gearbox Starting the vehicle
  • Check that the gear lever is in neutral.
  • Do not touch the accelerator.
  • Diesel engines: turn the key to position M and wait for the preheating warning lamp to go out if it is on.
  • Operate the starter by turning the key until the engine runs (no more than ten seconds).
  • At temperatures below 0 °C, depress the clutch while the starter is operating to make starting easier.
Engaging reverse gear
  • Push the gear lever to the right, then rearwards.

Engage reverse gear only, vehicle stationary, engine at idle.

  • Lift the ring under the knob and push the gear lever to the left, then forwards.

Engage reverse gear only, vehicle stationary, engine at idle.

For safety and to make starting the engine easier:
  • Always select neutral,
  • Press the clutch pedal.
