The Fiat CODE system
This is an electronic engine immobiliser system that increases protection against vehicle theft attempts. It activates automatically when the key is removed from the starter device.
Operation
Each time the engine is started, when the key is turned to the MAR position, the Fiat CODE control unit sends a recognition code to the engine control unit to deactivate its function block.
The recognition code is sent only if the Fiat CODE control unit has recognised the code transmitted by the key.
When the key is turned to the STOP position, the Fiat CODE system deactivates the functions of the engine control unit. If, during starting, the code is not correctly recognised, the warning light
will come on in the instrument cluster. In this case, turn the key to the STOP position and then to MAR; if the block persists, try again with the other keys supplied. If the engine still cannot be started, contact the Fiat Service Network.
If the warning light
comes on, it means the system is carrying out a self-diagnosis (for example, due to a voltage drop). If the problem persists, contact the Fiat Service Network.
