Ignition switch
The key can turn to 3 different positions fig. 3:
- STOP: engine off, key removable, steering locked. Some electrical devices (e.g. car radio, central door locking, etc.) may still operate;
- MAR: driving position. All electrical devices can operate;
- AVV: engine start.

The starter device has a safety mechanism that, if the engine fails to start, requires the key to be returned to the STOP position before the starting procedure is repeated.
Steering lock
Engaging
With the device in the STOP position, remove the key and turn the steering wheel until it locks.
Disengaging
Moving the steering wheel slightly, turn the key to the MAR position.
WARNING 2) If the starter device has been tampered with (e.g. an attempted theft), have its operation checked by the Fiat Service Network before driving the vehicle.3) Always remove the key when leaving the vehicle, to prevent anyone from operating the controls by accident. Remember to apply the handbrake. If the vehicle is parked uphill, engage 1st gear; if it is parked downhill, engage reverse gear. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
4) Any aftermarket intervention that tampers with the steering column or steering shaft (e.g. fitting an anti-theft device) is strictly prohibited. Such intervention may not only reduce system performance and void the warranty, but may also cause serious safety problems and make the vehicle non-compliant with type approval.
5) Never remove the key while the vehicle is moving. The steering wheel would lock automatically at the first turn of the wheel. This applies at all times, including when the vehicle is being towed.
