Seat belt maintenance

For correct seat belt maintenance, carefully observe the following warnings:

• always use seat belts with the webbing fully extended and not twisted; make sure it can run freely without obstruction;
• check the seat belt operates correctly as follows: fasten the seat belt and pull it firmly;
• following a significant accident, replace the seat belt being worn, even if it does not appear to be damaged. In any case, replace the seat belt if the pretensioners have been activated;
• prevent the retractors from getting wet: their correct operation is guaranteed only if they are not exposed to water infiltration;
• replace the seat belt when signs of significant wear or cuts are present;
• to clean the belts, wash them by hand with water and neutral soap, rinse and let them dry in the shade. Do not use strong detergents, bleaches, dyes or any other chemical substances that could weaken the webbing fibres.

CAUTION 84) The pretensioner can be used only once. After it has been activated, contact an authorised Fiat Service Centre to have it replaced.

85) For maximum protection, keep the seatback upright, lean your back against it fully and keep the belt snug against the chest and hips. Always fasten seat belts, both front and rear! Travelling without fastened seat belts increases the risk of serious injury or death in an impact.

86) It is strictly forbidden to disassemble or tamper with the components of the seat belt and pretensioner. Any work must be carried out by qualified and authorised personnel.

87) If the seat belt has been subjected to a severe load, for example following an accident, it must be replaced completely together with its anchorages, the anchorage fixing bolts and the pretensioner; indeed, even if it shows no visible defects, the seat belt may have lost its strength properties. CAUTION 37) Work involving impacts, vibrations or localised heating (above 100 °C for a maximum of 6 hours) in the area of the pretensioner may cause damage or activation. Contact an authorised Fiat Service Centre if such components must be serviced.
